San Daniele - City of Prosciutto
The tour has much more to offer than the world-famous raw ham. Experienced bikers will enjoy themselves on this tour through northern Italy, past the region's many historic towns.
We meet in front of the tourist office in Faak am See and reach the Italian state border via the country road to Thörl Maglern. Over the Plöckenpass we enter Italy and directly into the Kanaltal with its long curves. For a short time we are accompanied by the river Fella, which is looking for its way towards the sea. We take our first break in Venzone. Situated on a hillside, the town welcomes us for a cappuccino or espresso.
We set off again and encounter a flatter landscape before arriving in San Daniele. The small town is perched on a hill and has a world-famous speciality to offer: the air-dried San Daniele ham. In the town centre there is a beautiful church, which we visit.
Afterwards we make our way to Ragogna and directly to the river Tagliamento - here we can finally taste and enjoy the famous ham. Well strengthened we start the engines again and drive into the mountain world of Northern Italy. Over the Passo Chianzutan we come to Tolemzzo, at the turn-off in the direction of the Plöckenpass. For the way home we choose the Kanaltal again and drive back to Chiusaforte. Via Sella Nevea and the Lago del Predil we finally reach Tarvis and about 40 kilometres later Lake Faak.
